A Happy New Year from the Festival! We hope you enjoyed the holidays and are looking forward to the year ahead.
The 2018 Aspiring Conversations will be held at Lake Wanaka Centre from April 6-8, and it’s now just over a month until we launch the programme for this year’s event. Politics, science, history, music, the environment – our speakers will be discussing so many of the things that make our world tick. You’ll be fired up with what you hear, ready to ask questions, and leaving with a lot talk about.
Invitations for the Aspiring Conversations launch, to be held at Lake Wanaka Centre on Monday February 12, will be sent out shortly to our Benefactors, Patrons and Sponsors.
Programmes will be mailed out after the launch and will be available to pick up around Wanaka from cafes, shops, the library and accommodation providers, and you’ll find the full programme on our website: www.aspiringconversations.co.nz.

Festival pop ups
“Pop ups” are businesses or services that “pop up” temporarily, and they often include cafes, stores and art galleries. They’ve become a bit of a phenomenon lately, and we will have two happening in association with Aspiring Conversations.
Local book lovers will be happy to hear Chris from Paper Plus Wanaka be back again with the Last Chapter pop-up book shop in Lake Wanaka Centre throughout Aspiring Conversations. The shop will be selling works by many of our featured speakers – a chance to grab a book, get it signed and continue your “time for thinking” with a bit of post-festival reading. Chris donates 20% of the proceeds from books sales at the Last Chapter shop back to Aspiring Conversations and the Festival of Colour, and we can’t thank him enough for the support he’s given us over the years.
And the Wanaka App will be running an Aspiring Conversations pop up on their front page. Just hit the Aspiring Conversations button for programme information, ticketing and all the festival news you need, right in the palm of your hand. It’s so handy, literally! If you don’t have the Wanaka App on your phone yet, you can download it from your App store – it’s free.
Our Sponsors: an update
Aspiring Conversations is presented by Milford Asset Management, and we are again working in association with McKinsey & Company.
We are so pleased to have Queenstown Airport back with us, and to welcome Air NZ to our festival family. Both are supporting Aspiring Conversations 2018 as Gateway Sponsors, while Lake Wanaka Tourism returns as a Silver sponsor this year.
We are also delighted to welcome Turney Homes as a Bronze sponsor for 2018 – they will be supporting a very special show that fits perfectly with the great work they do. They join Paper Plus Wanaka, PlaceMakers Wanaka, Allenby Farms Ltd. and Findlay & Co. as Bronze level sponsors of the 2018 Aspiring Conversations.
Thank you also to Central Lakes Trust who are again supporting Aspiring Conversations. Central Lakes Trust have been wonderful supporters of Aspiring Conversations and the Festival of Colour, not to mention so many great initiatives in our community.
And two more Wanaka businesses have confirmed they will be joining us again in 2018 as Local Business Sponsors: Florences Foodstore & Cafe, familiar to so many in our town as the place to pamper your palate, as well as premium property specialist Craig Myles of NZ Sotheby’s International Realty.
With the year rolling over, Benefactors and Patrons of the 2017 Festival of Colour can now renew at any time to become Patrons of the 2019 festival – it’s seems like a long way away, but we’ve already started planning for Wanaka’s next celebration of the arts. It’s the backing of our community that allows us to bring such a high calibre of performers and speakers to Wanaka. Thank you so much for your support!
Patrons and Benefactors can also still upgrade to Patron Plus or Benefactor Plus status and support Aspiring Conversations directly. If you would like to know more, or would like to have a chat about anything related to Aspiring Conversations or the Festival of Colour, you can get in touch with General Manager Laura Williamson on email@example.com.
