Carrying on the conversation

It is two weeks since Aspiring Conversations – our speakers and panellists have all left town and all have commented on what a wonderful time they had in Wanaka. The welcome, the questions and conversations that were carried on all over town made for a stimulating weekend. Many people have commented in our surveys on how they would like to carry on the conversations afterwards and have some follow up materials – we will investigate this for future years and in the meantime we have added Colin James introductory notes to the Advance Australia page of our website.

You can also listen to Tim Flannery on ‘Our Changing World’ on Radio NZ National being interviewed by his fellow Aspiring Conversations panellist Veronika Meduna.

Books and more

And next week we will hear if Patricia Grace has won the fiction category of the NZ Ockham Book Awards. The winners  will be announced at a ceremony on Tuesday at the opening night event of the Auckland Writers Festival. The awards ceremony is open to the public for the first time. In the meantime you may like to read this interview. And Patricia’s fellow panellist Tina Makereti has just been announced as a Pacific Regional winner of the Commonwealth 2016 Short Story Prize for ‘Black Milk’
And you can catch the reading of Tina’s book ‘ Where the Rekohu Bone Sings’ on Nine to Noon -listen here

If you want to buy any of the books that were featured at Aspiring Conversations, or indeed for all of your fiction and non-fiction book needs then do go to Paperplus Wanaka. They are valued supporters of the festival and have just donated an additional $1500 to us as a share of turnover on the books sold over the weekend. Support your local bookstore as they support us.
